Choosing the 10 greatest construction achievements in the Arab world has been something of a tricky proposition. Here at ConstructionWeekOnline, we've carefully considered the merits of the various projects and have tried to produce as diverse and as definitive a list as possible.
For the purposes of this survey, we've included all projects that have been completed from 1950 onwards, and our frame of reference has incorporated the Middle East and North Africa region, not just the GCC. We've chosen only those projects that have been completed, or are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, and the projects are listed in chronological order.
Of course, we don't claim to be infallible. Many of the projects that made it onto our list may well be considered controversial, while others are fairly obvious. You may feel that there are some glaring absences on the list, but wherever possible, we've tried to pick one of a particular type of development, so there is only one mosque, one land reclamation project and so on.
